The 10th World Water Forum will be held on 18-24 May 2024 in Bali, Indonesia. On 15 February the First preparatory meeting for the Forum began its work in Jakarta. Members of the Government of Indonesia, the board of the World Water Council, and representatives of various stakeholders take part in its work.
The main purpose of the meeting is to determine the priority topics, and the preliminary structure of the program, launch the political, regional, and thematic process of the Forum, as well as ensure the participation of a wide range of stakeholders both in the preparation of the Forum and in the Forum itself.
At the opening ceremony of the meeting, Indonesian President H.E. Joko Widodo delivered a video message. He noted that Indonesia is making every effort to make a worthy contribution to solving water problems at various levels, and the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024 can serve as an important platform in this process. During the meeting, President highlighted, among other items, six themes to be discussed in the organization of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024, one of which is the need for water for humans and the environment.
Sulton Rahimzoda, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Water and Climate Coalition, also spoke at the opening ceremony of the meeting, and informed the participants about the preparations for the UN 2023 Water Conference which will be held from 22 to 24 March in New York, and emphasized the importance ensuring synergy between this important Conference and the 10th World Water Forum.
In this context, he noted the need for commitment within this Conference by UN Member States, financial institutions, UN agencies, international organizations, and other stakeholders to accelerate action to achieve SDG6 and other water targets. These commitments will be collected in the Water Agenda for Action, one of the main Outcomes of the Conference, which is already launched on the Conference website.
Sulton Rahimzoda also outlined the importance of a mechanism to promote the Outcomes of the Conference and implement the commitments made to ensure accountability and monitoring and noted that the 10th Forum in Bali could play a role in evaluating the results achieved in the year following the New York Conference.
The meeting in Jakarta will finish its work tomorrow 16 February.
