On the sidelines of the Second Stakeholder Consultative Meeting of the 10th World Water Forum on 12-13 October in Bali, Indonesia, the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Water and Climate Coalition Leaders, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda, held a series of bilateral meetings with representatives of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Japan, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Senegal, AquaFed, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Asia Pacific Water Forum (APWF), Asian Water Council (AWC), African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW) and the International Water Secretariat.

At the meetings, issues of promoting the outcomes of the UN 2023 Water Conference within the framework of upcoming important global events, including the COP28 from 30 November to 12 December 2023 in Dubai, 10th World Water Forum from 18 to 24 May 2024 in Bali and the Third High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028 in June 2024 in Dushanbe were discussed.
Particular emphasis was placed on the progress of preparations for the upcoming COP28, to promote the water agenda of which the Republic of Tajikistan, together with the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is closely cooperating with the UAE. In this context, the need was expressed for Member States and other stakeholders to join forces to further integrate the water component into the climate agenda, using all available opportunities, including the Water Pavilion, the Water, Agriculture and Food Day program (10 December) and the negotiation process on the outcome document, to ensure that water has an even stronger position at COP28 than in the COP27 outcome document.
During the meetings, Tajikistan’s leadership in promoting water issues at the international level was highly appreciated, and readiness for further cooperation in this direction was expressed.
