As a part of the Integrated Session 4 at 4th Asia-Pacific Water Summit in Kumamoto, Japan, a presentation was made on the UN Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028 and the 2nd International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028.
The Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the High Level Panel on Water and Climate, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda and the Special Envoy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for Water, Mr. Henk Ovink, presented to the participants information on the preparation process for the UN Water Conference on the midterm comprehensive review of the International Decade for Action “Water for sustainable development”, 2018-2028, which will be held on 22-24 of March 2023 in New York under the chairmanship of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The goals, objectives and expected results of the Conference were noted, and it was also emphasized that the expectations of the world community from this conference are high, since it is the first UN water conference in almost the last 50 years.
Mr. Rahimzoda also emphasized the importance of the 2nd Dushanbe High-Level Conference on the International Water Decade, which will serve as a link in the chain of various global water events and play a key role in the process of preparing for the UN 2023 Water Conference.
Both the preparatory process and the Conferences will focus on drawing attention to water commitments, including the adoption of concrete actions that will help promote successful solutions.
