On 18 April 2023, the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan held a meeting entitled “Tajikistan – global initiatives in the field of water resources” with the participation of officials and representatives of relevant ministries and departments of the country.
The meeting was held in order to create a favorable legislative framework for the implementation of the initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, the Leader of the Nation – the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, within the framework of various regional and international organizations and communities, especially in the sphere of water and climate.
Within the framework of this meeting, the issues of strengthening and improving the current legal framework and, if necessary, the adoption of new laws for the timely implementation of the country’s global initiatives were considered.
The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Zokirzoda Muhammadtoir Zoir.
The meeting focused on the United Nations Midterm Comprehensive Review Conference on the implementation of the goals of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028. (UN 2023 Water Conference), held from 22 to 24 March 2023 at the UN Headquarters in New York under the co-chairmanship of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The keynote speakers were the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Juma D.Sh., Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sheralizoda Sh.A., Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Water and Climate Coalition Leaders, Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS Mr. Rahimzoda S.N., Chairman of the MNMO Committee on Agrarian Issues, Water and Land Resources Mr. Latifzoda R.B. and Chairman of the Committee on international affairs, public organizations, and media, Mr. Fattohzoda S.S.
The UN 2023 Water Conference, a historic event that brought the whole world together around the water problem, was organized on the basis of one of the initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, which is a source of pride and honor for our country, noted the speakers.
It was also emphasized that the promotion of water issues at the global level by a country rich in freshwater resources has increased the respect of the world community for the Leader of the Nation, as a wise and far-sighted leader, and for the Republic of Tajikistan, as a leading state in promoting issues related to water and climate, which are currently relevant for the whole world.
One of the Outcome documents of the Conference is the Water Action Agenda, which includes the commitments of countries, international and regional organizations, financial institutions, in general, and all interested parties, which will accelerate the achievement of goals and objectives in the field of water resources agreed at the international level, in including those contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as further cooperation to eliminate and prevent the consequences of climate change, melting glaciers and other natural factors.
As a result of the Meeting, on the basis of discussions, relevant recommendations were developed to promote global water and climate initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, allowing to determine the immediate priorities and actions of the relevant ministries and departments of the country in the implementation of the adopted commitments.
