The outcomes of the UN 2023 Water Conference were presented by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Zavqizoda Zavqi, at the SDG6 Special Event and the Water Action Agenda within the framework of the High-Level Political Forum, which took place on 17 July 2023 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
In his speech, the Minister noted that the UN 2023 Water Conference, first of all, inspired the world community, including governments, financial institutions, international organizations, and other stakeholders to take urgent action to address global problems related to water resources.
“The conference raised water issues to the highest priority of the UN and proved that joint efforts can lead to positive changes, including solving the water crisis and achieving internationally agreed goals and targets related to water. This is evidenced by the 829 voluntary commitments made by stakeholders to take urgent action in the water sector, covering many aspects, including policy, financing, management, and cooperation, which were registered in the Water Action Agenda,” noted Mr. Zavqizoda.
The session was organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs in cooperation with UN-Water. The session was also attended by Mr. Li Junhua, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, UN-Water Chair and Director-General of ILO, H.E. Mr. Csaba Korosi- President of the 77th Session of the General Assembly, Mr. Steven Collet- Deputy Vice Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and other dignitaries.
