On 22 March 2023, at the UN headquarters in New York under the co-chairmanship of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the United Nations Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the implementation of the goals of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028 officially started.
At the opening ceremony of the Conference, the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Emomali Rahmon, King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, President of the UN General Assembly Csaba Körösi, President of the Economic and Social Council Lachezara Stoeva, UN Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs and Secretary General of the UN 2023 Water Conference Li Junhua and other dignitaries.
The main goal of the Conference is to make voluntary commitments from the UN Member States, international organizations, financial institutions, and other stakeholders that can influence the formation of a precise agenda for the second half of the Decade and beyond 2030. The Conference also aims to create conditions for the international community to better understand and appreciate water, take joint measures for the prudent management of water resources, take serious measures, and sign agreements to achieve water goals and objectives.
The work of the Conference will last until 24 March 2023 and the Conference will host plenary events, interactive dialogues, official sessions, special events, New York Water Week cultural and other events related to water resources.
