On 17-18 January 2023, the organizers of the UN 2023 Water Conference, including UNDESA, as the secretariat of the Conference, held an online multilateral thematic webinar on: “Preparing for the Water Conference and the Water Action Agenda.
The webinars are organized for stakeholders as an additional opportunity to prepare for the UN 2023 Water Conference and aim to inform participants about the opportunities to participate in it and the Water Action Agenda, by sharing views and expectations, and encouraging and inspiring stakeholders to the registration of transformational changes in the rules of the game and voluntary commitments to the Action Agenda.
One of the key outcomes of the conference will be the Water Action Agenda, which will bring together voluntary commitments, promises, and actions from Member States and other stakeholders, and aims to strengthen cooperation and provide concrete and actionable commitments in the preparatory process for the UN 2023 Water Conference.
On 17 January 2023, the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Water and Climate Coalition Leaders, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda, on behalf of the co-chairs of the Conference, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the Webinar.
In his speech, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda thanked the stakeholders for their active participation in the webinar and the opportunity for them to contribute to the success of the Conference and its Water Action Agenda.
Mr. Rahimzoda noted that the co-organizers of the Conference, Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, are striving to use the Conference in an appropriate way and make it historic not only in terms of time but also in terms of its results.
“We don’t need a Conference with bold statements. We need a Conference with commitments and the courage to turn those commitments into reality! We need commitment from governments, civil society, and the private sector from all over the world community,” Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda mentioned.
The UN 2023 Water Conference is expected to provide all stakeholders with a unique opportunity to contribute to the achievement of SDG 6 and other internationally agreed water-related goals and targets.
