The Republic of Tajikistan strives to use all available opportunities to consolidate the efforts of stakeholders and create coalitions so that water is worthily represented in the COP 28 Agenda and makes a significant contribution to achieving climate goals.

In this regard, on the sidelines of the 2nd session of the Rome Water Dialogue, which took place on 4-5 October 2023 at FAO Headquarters, bilateral meetings were held between Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda – Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Water and Climate Coalition Leaders, with Ms. Astrid Schomaker – Director of the Green Diplomacy and Multilateralism Partnerships at the European Commission, Ms. Meike van Ginneken – Special Envoy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for International Water Affairs, Mr. Emilio Ciarlo – Special Representative of Italy to promote Italy’s candidacy for the 11th World Water Forum.
These meetings included discussions on the preparation of COP 28 water-related activities, including freshwater ecosystem conservation, sustainable urban water supply and water-resilient food systems, and their expected outcomes, the advancement of water issues within the formal COP 28 negotiation processes, and the inclusion of water in its outcome documents.
At the meeting with Mr. Emilio Ciarlo, a detailed exchange of views also took place regarding the preparations for the 11th World Water Forum, for which Italy has submitted an application.
