On 11 of April 2022, in New York a meeting was held between the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan for Water, Co-Chair of the Dushanbe Water Process, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda and the Permanent Representative of Egypt to the UN, Mr. Osama Abdelkhalek. The meeting was also attended by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN, Mr. Jonibek Hikmat.
During the meeting, the parties discussed priority areas of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Arab Republic of Egypt in the field of water diplomacy, including issues of cooperation within the framework of the 27th UN Conference on Climate Change (COP27) and the UN Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the International Decade for Action “Water for sustainable development”, 2018-2028
During the meeting, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda noted the importance of water resources for achieving sustainable development, as well as the efforts of Tajikistan in promoting water issues in the regional and global agenda.
Mr. Rahimzoda also provided information on the preparatory process for holding the Second High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028, which will be held from 6 to 9 June 2022 in Dushanbe and invited Mr. Abdelhalek and other colleagues to take part in this global water event.
