On 6 of April 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland Co-Chair of the Dushanbe Water Process, Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda gave an interview about the 2nd International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028. To the representatives of the “Water Diplomats” magazine.
Mr. Rahimzoda provided general information on the preparations for the 2nd High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028, which will be held on 6-9 of June 2022 in Dushanbe under the title “Catalyzing water action and partnership at the local, national, regional and global levels”.
The Chairman noted the main goals and objectives of the conference, the preparation process, further steps, expected results, as well as the measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to hold the Dushanbe Conference at a high level and the importance of this conference for preparing for the UN Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the International Decade for Action “Water for sustainable development”, 2018-2028, which will be held on 22-23 of March 2023 in New York under the chairmanship of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Netherlands.
It was emphasized that the well-coordinated work of Tajikistan and the Netherlands as co-chairs of the UN-2023 Conference and UNDESA and UN-Water as the Secretariat, using various mechanisms and platforms for the possible involvement of all interested parties in its preparation and conduct.
Since both conferences are aimed at the implementation of the Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, Mr. Rahimzoda emphasized the importance and necessity of making commitments and accelerating actions to achieve the water-related Sustainable Development Goals and other internationally agreed goals and targets.
