On the sidelines of the World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden, on 30 August 2022, the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan on Water and Climate, Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda met with the new Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Hani Sewilam.
During the meeting, the parties discussed priority areas of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Arab Republic of Egypt on water, including issues of cooperation within the framework of the Cairo Water Week, which will be held on 16-19 October 2022, the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which will be held 7-18 November 2022, as well as the organization of the Water Pavilion within the framework of COP27 and the UN Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028, which will be held on 23-24 March 2022 in New York under co-chairmanship of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda, as a co-chair, provided information on the preparatory process of the UN 2023 Water Conference, its goals, objectives, expected results of the world community from the Conference and the efforts of the co-chairs and the secretariat of the Conference in this process.
Mr. Hani Sewilam expressed the readiness of the Arab Republic of Egypt for further cooperation and its active participation in the preparatory process for the UN 2023 Water Conference.
The Minister also noted the importance of international cooperation to achieve global goals in the field of water resources and expressed interest in the participation of Mr. Rahimzoda himself and other representatives of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in international water events in Egypt, including Cairo Water Week and the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27).
